Sensitizing the management of Argentina´s financial institutions about the consequences and opportunities generated by the identification and evaluation of the environmental and social risks of their clients and / or investment partners is the main objective of the “Training Workshop on Environmental and Social Risk Analysis”, which will be held this September 8 at Amerian Hotels, Buenos Aires, Argentina, for executives of the Bank of Investment and Foreign Trade, BICE.
This event is organized by the Ecobanking Project, of CLACDS,INCAE Business School and CAF – Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina for Banco BICE.
“With these training workshops, Ecobanking contributes to improving the competitiveness of the participating financial institutions, many of them interested in putting into operation environmental and social risk analysis systems, which, through their application, favor the sustainable development of the regions where these banks operate, “said Gracia M. Barahona, Executive Director of Ecobanking.
During the workshop, participants will be taught to detect, reduce and evaluate these risks, through tools used by international financial institutions.
In addition, a series of practical tools for the analysis of the aforementioned risks will be presented and applied to real cases, and will address issues such as sustainable finance and the global framework, the importance of sustainability in financial organizations, and the management of environmental and social risks (ESR), as well as the application of an environmental and social risk management system (ESRAS).
“We coordinate the realization of these workshops with Ecobanking, because we have verified the positive impact of managing these impacts, not only for the bank’s customers but also with the aim of capturing new markets and position ourselves as an organization responsible towards the environment” , said Mauricio Velásquez, CAF’s Principal Environmental and Climate Change Executive.
In addition to CAF participants , the workshop will feature Adriana Umaña, INCAE’s Ecobanking Project representative, Mrs. María Victoria Zubia, Coordinator of the Technical Department of the Risk Management of BICE Bank and Mr. Gustavo Portaluppi, who will be in charge of teaching the workshop.
Mr. Portaluppi is a Senior Executive with extensive experience in local and international financial markets, specializing in the areas of credit, operational and regulatory risk, structuring of financial operations, foreign trade and capital markets. He is also tutor of the Course “Green Housing Financing”, a visionary course launched by Ecobanking on the sustainable construction business case.
